The National Association for the Visual Arts (NAVA) is the national peak body for the visual and media arts, craft and design sector.
Since its establishment in 1983, NAVA has been extremely successful in bringing about policy and legislative change to encourage the growth and development of the sector and to increase professionalism within the industry.
NAVA undertakes advocacy and lobbying, research, policy and project development, data collection and analysis. It also provides direct service to its members and the sector generally by offering expert advice, referrals, resources, professional representation and development, grant programs and a range of other opportunity brokerage and career development services. Visual artists are at the centre of its work.
One of NAVA’s objectives is to strengthen the infrastructure which supports the work of artists. In the mid-1990s, NAVA was successful in persuading the federal government to provide the funds to establish Viscopy, and has continued to support its work ever since.
As the professional association for artists, NAVA cherishes its members and works with them to advocate to key decision makers for positive changes which build the strength of the sector. You are encouraged to become a NAVA member to support its work and to access a range of benefits including heavily discounted insurance cover.
